As the daughter of an architect, I inherited a deep sensitivity to space, structure, and the built environment. Maison unfolds as a personal blueprint of my years of wandering abroad—a visual diary of encounters, memories, and transformations. Through this series, I search for traces of myself, where forgotten fragments of childhood resurface as intertwined, fluid lines.
"Influenced by architectural thinking and spatial structural concepts, Chen Mei-Tsen has long viewed the city as a continuously evolving organism. She focuses on how its state changes under the interplay of time, natural growth, and human activity. Identifying herself as an 'urban nomad', she studies how places shape identity through repeated movement, stays, and returns. She also traces the spatial traces and psychogeography left by discrete experiences at the individual and collective levels.
In this exhibition, titled 'Maison', Chen further develops her long-standing research on 'city-identity-movement' by rethinking 'home'. Rather than viewing home as a fixed spatial unit, she sees it as a trajectory generated by the process of leaving and looking back. Through painting and spatial intervention, she transforms personal life experience into a continuously evolving perceptual map.
